Spalted Maple Hollow Form

4.5” x 4.5”

This was one of those pieces that I nearly gave up on a few times. The dramatic spalting drew me in, but the wood was very punky in several spots (probably too punky tbh). The mouth of this vessel is much larger than my usual because the original rim disintegrated as soon as I touched it with 180 grit. I’d estimate there’s about a quart of sanding sealer holding this thing together 😂 Regardless, it was a fun challenge to make it work 🤷🏼‍♂️
I'm glad you persevered Jaramiah! It's lovely! Can I ask what you use as a sanding sealer, and then what top coat? The finish is lovely.
