Snake Box
180mm long .2mm thick
Turned from Black Maire
This is another idea I came up with using my winged vessels see page 12 of my gallery for Midas Box.
I had in mind a Cleo Pat era Egyptian style
The Snakes are made by cutting down the wing (with the Skew) and leaving a wing sitting on a wing .Then carving away the waste. The wings are able to be turned so thin as I place braces from the tips to the main body when turning (See gallery for explanation and pictures.
Thanks again to Gordon who showed me a few tricks with the airbrush .Like spraying through fabric to get the snake like pattern on the boy of the box.
I had a more golden appearance planed but was enjoying spraying so much I just kept playing until this result.
Someone suggested I get 4 small rubies and place in the eyes.
The Snake texture was done with a hot blade in a push and drag motion
What do you think a bit sombre/, should I re spray a lighter colour

I have enjoyed reviewing your gallery this morning. You have a wonderful collection of work. I appreciate your willingness to color the wood. There seems to be a strong tendency existing that says if it is made wood it has to look like wood. Wood is such a marvelous material and it shouldnt be restricted to its inherent color and figure.
