Slotted Vases 5149 and 5150

These two started out as pieces of very plain box elder. The slots were routed while the pieces were mounted on the lathe. There are 9 spirals on the right and 6 on the left. The one on the right has a ring left around the top to control things, while the one on the left is a bit more "wild". Dyed with aniline dyes. About 9 1/2 and 9 3/4 inches tall, respectively.

Jeff,
A laminate trimmer is mounted on a sled which moves across a table attached to the lathe. An indexing wheel is mounted on the outboard side of the spindle and is connected with a cable and pullies to the sled. Rotating the wheel moves the sled laterally and of course, also rotates the piece mounted in the chuck producing a spiral.

Thanks Bruce. I recently saw a similar system on the WOW forum. I appreciate the followup.
