Sculpture #4

Turned, power carved and torched birch bowl. A bowl that had developed checks while drying, I didn’t want to part with it. Last month when I had my micro motor delivered, that checked bowl was the first thing I picked up and just started playing around on it. This was the result. I’m super pleased with the results so far.
Love this for multiple reasons.

1. It's an attractive piece.
2. You working with the piece to build the form.
3. Saving a mistake or failed project and finding a purpose.

Thank you very much Gregory… I really enjoyed the process with this. I took my time and would work on it for a bit every day or so for the last month and a half.

John, there's an old saw about woodturning being the task of taking a block and cutting away everything that isn't a bowl. In this case, you kept taking wood away, and look what was in there! Something very original and quite striking. Good job!
