Saint Damien's Twist

Saint Damien's Twist

This twisted vase was made from a block of Monkey Ear (also known as Earpod) wood. It came from a historic tree that Saint Damien planted at Saint Anthony’s church on Maui in the mid-1800s. Emiliano Achaval was given a large block of the wood back in December by the church, and he invited several turners to create pieces to donate back to the church for display and fund raising. Finish is Briwax Hard Wax Oil, buffed on the Beall system. Height is 8 inches.
Thanks John! This was a really interesting piece of wood. The grain patterns and coloring really lent themselves to a twisted approach. Did you see all of the grain patterns in the rotating view?
