Purpleheart Snow

Purpleheart Snow

This 4 1/2 inch bowl was turned from Purpleheart. It started off as a half-twist bowl (round on bottom and twisted on top), but it became clear the bowl did not want to be twisted. As a redesign I decided to make it into a bowl with a textured upper surface. The textured surface was colored blue and finished with liming wax to give it the appearance of snowflakes. Finish is Watco oil buffed on the Beall system. Sometimes it is best to listen to what the wood is trying to tell you...
What can I say Russ.... sometimes the wood just doesn't want to cooperate. The purpleheart is fairly dense and just fought me too much when turning off center. I admitted defeat and entered the 'redesign' phase. Sometimes round is OK
