Post Oak 13 x 4 inches. 3/8” at the rim, the rest is 1/4
First turned 8/10/21 second last week
Finish is varnish, walnut oil, turpentine and black India ink
Very nice bowl, Marc. Classic, honest, well proportioned, wonderfully appealing wood, with a very attractive finish. Well done. Can you explain how the India ink is used? Is it mixed in with your other finish ingredients?

Thank you, Dean. Those are the attributes I’ve been striving for. It seems to be, at least for now, my lane.
The finish is
1 part tried and true varnish oil
1 part walnut oil
2parts turpentine
2 parts India ink
The alcohol based ink and the other components mix well enough with a bit of stirring.
I swamp the piece with the mixture, and continue flooding till it’s saturated. Let it sit for a while and buff off while it’s still very wet.
I did a second application the next day, but with less turpentine.
I’m still playing with the ratios and methodology.
I’m told that fuming with ammonia could give a similar color, something I intend to try soon.
