The globe is an apple branch. I bought a box of "smoking/fire" apple wood from a farm stand and pulled a random branch out. The wood has aged outside so it has begun to spalt. Amazing grain, figure and spalting.
Globe is hollow and features an inset of copper mica powder.
Cap & Base are Pink Ivory.
There is no finial on this piece as I did not want to take the attention off the globe.
Yes, the base is as sharp as it looks! My hand actually got impaled on this while trying to remove it from the lathe. Why did I make it so sharp? Because Pink Ivory can do it. ;-)
I felt a strong connection with this piece of wood and somehow knew I would not be disappointed with what lie beneath the bark.
