Pens for the Troops

Pens for the Troops

Every year our local woodturning club (Smoky Mountain Woodturners - SMWTS.ORG) turns pens that the local Woodcraft store sends to the troops overseas. Last year we turned over 400 pens. Normally the Woodcraft store supplies the pen kits, but this year I got an early start (with time on my hands) and began turning pens using spare kits in my 'archives'. I decided to use one of my recent acquisitions, a CNC laser burner to do some advertising for our club. It's amazing how crisp a line a focused laser can cut. Wood is mahogany.
Hello Brian, very nice pen's and for a good cause. I use to be in the pen production business and we shipped many box's of pens to our troops overseas. Well done!

@Lamar Wright
Thanks Lamar! It is a very worthy cause. I would have liked to receive a pen like these when I was deployed in the Navy in the mid to late 1970s. It was a different time then and Vietnam was winding down. The military was not nearly as popular then as it is now.
