This bowl was made from a piece of Golden Raintree given to me by a friend from church. Her husband had planted this tree over 50 years ago beside their home. I've never seen a Golden Raintree this large and I was quite excited to see how it would turn. The bowl measures 3 3/4" high x 10 1/2" diameter. I pierced 48 ribs into the side of the bowl and then spent several days hand sanding them. I've had this idea for a bowl in my head for quite some time and acquiring this unusual piece of wood inspired me to tackle this project.
I wonder who's reading who's mind! I'm aiming to make something a long similar lines for my clubs August competition. But as I'm into segmented turning the "ribs" will be of different woods and hence different colours, the top ring and base will be yet a different wood. So three colours in total. Still flattening rings, so actual turning not started yet.

Obviously a lot of sanding...but a beautiful result!
