Oak Vases

Oak Vases

These 12x5" vases were made from California Valley Oak. Valley Oak is known as "firewood" because of its continueous movement and cracking. Creating anything from the old oak is an accomplishment in itself. And these vases were shown in the 'Bedford Gallery' group show (Walnut Creek, CA) - noted for their size and shape, but also for being rather drab and uninteresting.
Nice accomplishment -e-. We have that type of firewood in Texas too. I roughed a bunch of it last year, but that might be my last lesson since much of it will become waste. The figure in these pieces looks good, so I would disagree on the comments from others that they are drab since they don't look drab to me.

there are people like us who appreciate the beauty of the wood, then there are those who don't!
