Why do you turn it twice?
Curious, I only turn my NE bowls once.

Guess it's just force of habit or not knowing any better. I haven't done many NE bowls and generally speaking prefer a round finished bowl, so I just usually shape to 10%, apply anchorseal and forget it for a year.

Other than getting the piece sooner, what benefit is there in once turned? Better chance of keeping the bark? More or less warpage?

For me the advantages of one turning are
- It is nearly finished when it comes off the lathe.
- in 2 days it is ready to sand and finish
- When the grain is balanced it will warp symmetrically.
- the warp accentuates the oval character of the NE bowl.
- I love turning green wood


- I think the chances of keeping the bark are a little better turned once. I do use CA glue if I want to keep the bark.

- The main advantage of double turning is being able to get a round bowl.

Nice NE bowl. I haven't turned many NE bowls, but I agree with Al that it is preferable to just turn it once. It will be oval anyway and the warping will be symmetrical if it is balanced. Do you have a profile shot of the bowl?
