Childless Cat Lady

Childless Cat Lady

This saturn bowl is called "Childless Cat Lady". It was turned by my husband, Mark Hall out of spalted maple (10" x 3"). Carved, burned, gilded & painted. The constelation in the sky is Scorpio, which references the timing of the election.
I love those expressive eyes. We’re childless cat man and cat woman. You don’t have to buy cars for cats. And don’t have to pay college tuition for cats.
Good for you! This is actually a response to JD Vance's comments that the country was being run by childless cat women with miserable lives, who are ruining the country. °phew°. That's a lot of hate.

I love it Carol. Thank you for your JDVance
Response, Retort, using art as you have.
Lady you are really cool.
And you responded so quickly .
Yay for you.

I was hustling to get this done while the relevance was strong. I'm cool? Wow, that's not something that I hear often (posture improving).

I been admiring your work for as long as I been on AAW. And you seem to push the envelope at will. And this piece is def a statement.
I just got back on AAW after some medical problems….Back in the saddle now though.
I had d nit seen your stuff for some time and now it is refreshing ti see something from you.
Thanks

I also had some medical issues (4th pacemaker, but I am now new and improved). I am making time to art instead of fret. Thank you for the kind words!

Oh you got a new pacemaker and i got a dub bypass and new valve.
Lucky us we still trippin!!!
You are very welcome.
So do you sell your work/art?
And what is a Saturn bowl?

A saturn bowl is a bowl with a very wide rim, which is perfect for narrative painting. I like them to have round bottoms so you can spin them around, and your point of view on the narrative can change.

I feel very lucky that technology has kept up with me (and you!). So happy to still be on the journey.

Yes, I do sell my work. I also do commissions. Often pieces with personal symbols blended together.

This piece has captivated me. I find in it an incredible amount of symbolism that speaks powerfully to the times in which we find ourselves. I keep returning to it and continue to see new concepts that are boldly proclaimed (just the fact that the girl is sitting in a hole is enough to let viewers know exactly what you are communicating). Add the barbed wire flag, choice of pigmentation, bars on the ends... I could go on... What you have accomplished and expressed in an artistic woodturning is nothing short of brilliant. If only more of our fellow human beings could allow it to move them toward the decency (and righteous indignation) that I think you may be trying to evoke.

Oh my goodness, Scott. I feel so seen! Thank you for looking and gracing me with your thoughts!
