Maple Burl Hollow Form

Maple Burl Hollow Form

This 6" tall maple burl hollow form was turned in 2003 from material harvested in IA by a friend. A large inclusion provided an opportunity for something interesting while hollowing...it was actually easier since there was a "view" to the interior for most of the work. The finish is Minwax Antique Oil applied and friction cured at the lathe and then buffed with the Beall system. The interior was painted gold to cover some nasty looking bug condos.
