I love the inner bowl grain as well, but not as happy with the side profile shape. Live and learn.
The raised lip I have to give credit to Odie as I have made several versions patterned after his designs. When it comes to bowls, I think he's the man!
You are picking out some great wood to use for your recent examples. You will find that the plainer pieces of wood also work well for difficult shapes, but plain shapes on plain wood almost always looked "lacking" in my opinion.
Difficult shape + spectacular wood = looks good
Simplistic well done shape + spectacular wood = looks good
Simplistic well done shape + plain grained wood = doesn't quite work
(That's a general concept, but there is always the exception to the rules!)
