Limed Ash Hollow Form

This hollow form was turned from an Ash tree felled in my Daughters yard in late 2009. The hollow form was turned green, allowed to dry and finished in January of this year. Dharma red dye was airbrushed on the inside and outside, following upper grain. The outside was then airbrushed with black dye to the rim. The airbrush was used to blend. After steel wool applications to reduce fuzzy grain, the black dyed areas were covered with liming wax using steel wool to push the wax into the soft grain. Finally, the overall dyed areas were sealed with a shellac based sanding sealer and steelwooled lightly to smooth the surface. Three coats of Liberon finishing oil were applied, followed by thorough drying and buffing with the Beall system. The size of the vase is 6 wide by 5 high by 3/16 thick.
