Lignum Vitae Round Bottom Box

Lignum Vitae Round Bottom Box

Regarded as the world's heaviest and hardest wood, this box is turned from a beautiful piece of Lignum Vitae (Guaiacum officinale) It is a very rare wood, and protected as an endangered species. I was able to get this chunk from my wood supplier, and it is very dense and oily! Turned in my signature round bottom style, with a domed lid and chamfered edge. It has stunning striping and and also sports a nice sapwood element. Turned, hollowed pretty thin, and finished with gloss lacquer. Size is 1 3/4" tall x 1 3/4" diameter. Next year's theme for the POP exhibition is boxes, so........!!!
