Large salad bowl, solid cherry base and cherry rings, 12 segments per ring

Large salad bowl, solid cherry base and cherry rings, 12 segments per ring

Approximately 10" diameter and 6" tall, I really pushed the physical limits of my midi lathe on this one. First attempt the rings separated. On this attempt, I learned I need a larger tool rest (or maybe a bigger lathe). The tenon broke just I as was close to finishing the bowl. I gingerly turned to my cole jaws to bring it all the home. Finished with butcher block oil and conditioner. Fulfills a request from a family friend for a large bowl plus eight salad bowls (the smaller bowls are all solid cherry).
Well worth all the effort. Beautiful wood. Exquisite, yet simple design. A perfect finish for this bowl. Thank you for sharing the inspiration.
