Holuhraun

After a period of turning more functional pieces I am back to creating some things that are more artsy . This footed open form is called Holuhraun which is the name of an Icelandic volcano that spectacularly erupted about 10 years ago in the central highlands. The rib that extends from slot in the rim was painted to represent hot and cooling lava. The texture is showing the how the lava flows freely as it exits the volcano and becomes more chunky the farther it gets from the vent. The wood is spalted gum and the finish is water based acrylic. The paints are artist acrylic paints. It is 10
