"Functional"

I think in 20 years this is the first truly functional piece I made. Heavy brass insert for votive candle. 5.75" x 2.25" Redwood. Beal buffed directly on wood. comments welcome.

I think we have conflicting perceptions of what "functional" is, Dale. After taking a look at your album, I'd say there are quite a few turnings there that fit my definition of the term.

Did you have any problems not using a finish, but going directly to the Beale buff? Seems like the wood might be vulnerable to stains from everyday things (coffee, for instance) a little more so......but, I am only guessing because I haven't tried it.

BTW: When you get to around 125-130 photos in your album, you'll have to start deleting in order to add to the album.......

Odie, I've done the direct Beale Buff on Redwood before with no problems. It does stain or darken the redwood a slight bit, but I think the carnuba wax protects the wood thereafter from everyday stains. Thanks for saying that some of my turnings have been "functional".....I'll show my wife your comment!
