I turned this and began the carving at the Escoulen School in France a few years ago. Then I hauled it all over the US to demos and worked on it a little at a time so people could see the stages of carving. It has been through hundreds of hands and thousands of miles, and recently took a trip to NYC for a permanent stay with some nice folks. The heartwood is use at the top for contrast which is the opposite of what I normally do-the sapwood was very wide with only a little heartwood.
