flaming maple platter
Greg Thomas

flaming maple platter

10" x 1.25" sugar maple finished with a combination of polyurethane, tung oil and turpentine. As I turned a larger blank, 3.5" X 10", and began seeing the grain, I took it off the lathe and to the band saw and cut 1.5 inches off one end.
Gorgeous, Greg. I have a lot of maple with this same color, (less the flame unfortunately!) and I am amazed every time when I see what's underneath.

Thanks for sharing.

Rich

Thanks, I know what you mean about being amazed. This is the 28th piece that I've turned from this sugar maple and each piece is full of wonder.

Just looking at your beautiful piece of wood reminds me of why many of us turn wood. I think you made a very wise decision.

Greg, thanks for the reminder of the beauty that is all around us!

Thanks Kurt and all. Finding and sharing beauty is a big part of what makes woodturning a continual pleasure for me.
