The shape of the form takes inspiration from the warping of space-time postulated by some physicists that science fiction writers love to use as time/distance shortcuts for space travel. I have to admit that I love science and science fiction and will read physics books for pleasure.
Although similar to the catenoids in my minimal surface series, the curve of the form is based on a hyperbola, not a catenary curve. Their are 34 spirals in one direction and 55 in the other, 8 spirals on the outside. All are numbers in the Fibonacci series. I used my special fibonacci texture tool for the pattern.
