EMERGING BOWL Pecan 12" x 5"

A friend gave me a couple of large pieces of a pecan log. Id never turned pecan before and I found it to be a challenge. When it was green it wanted to crack and when it was seasoned it seemed rock hard. I kept sharpening my tools and this is what I came up with. I saw one bowl emerging from another bowl as I was shaping it and decided that it somehow seemed right. Its color started out very light but is already taking on a golden hue. When you lift this bowl you get a sense of the strength and density of pecan.
This bowl is finished with a combination of mineral oil and bees wax.
very nice

You've done a good job turning the pecan, and your description is exactly what I've found and why I don't want any more pecan. The bowl is interesting, and the finish is great.

Thanks Hal. The other big piece of pecan stayed a big hunk that I sit on. I do like the way pecan continues to get deeper hues of amber.
