This piece was inspired by the Japanese Tea ceremony and is one piece to a larger piece reflecting the same.
I have done much research into the philosophy of Zen and this piece being a new direction of my work I based the idea of the metal looking effect from ideas found from the Yayoi period of Japan being around 300bc, this being the period when metal was first used in Japan.
The techniques for the texturing and colouring for this piece were shown to me by Philip Streeting who is helping me to explore outside of my normal comfort zone.
The lid and twig were covered in a metal foil and patina added. The twig was chosen instead of my standard carved finial as it represents to me that nature can do a far better job than me and that we are equal to all other beings/entities in nature itself. Also that imperfection within the twig is actually perfection as this is how it was intended to grow.
Comments welcome.
Take care
