Thanks for your comments. The red band (bead) color was a suggestion from my Wife.

Gil I like this one the swirling grain draws your eye down the finial to the base like a magnet. Nice one.

Your use of color is brilliant. The red is a perfect touch to the piece & I agree with the other comments that it catches your eye and draws the attention to the connection of the finial to the piece. This is good. However, the finial teardrop might be a tad large and overpower the effect you are trying to achieve. Next time you might try allowing the red to come through by making the tear drop smaller in line with the base of the piece by using the golden number also known as the fibonacci ratio see the following website for an explanation http://www.mcs.surrey.ac.uk/Personal/R.Knott/Fibonacci/fibnat.html#golden
