Uncanny timing. I just turned a redbud bowl, almost the same size, except not that thin. Yup; very nice wood, but sure likes to split.

thank you for your comments Gil and Joe, still getting used to the american woods but yes Red bud is a beautiful wood, although i have found it hard to find anymore, and yes it likes to split and tear, but enjoyed it because it gave me more knowledge of wood characteristics I had not encountered before.

Google is your friend, Mike. Significant identifiers are heart-shaped leaves, flat seed pods, and dark brown heartwood. May or may not have flowers, depending on nearby relatives (I think). Mine was a roadside orphan on the next street.
