Golden edges

Brown Melee Burl with gold edges
Mr. Holland
This piece is beatiful, yet somewhat simple in comparison to the rest of your gallery. Amazing this piece would rate that comment ... testimate to the rest of your work. Did you paint the 'natural edge' prior to turning?
Frank

Hi Frank, Yes you are right about Golden Edges but, in my limited turning career, I am exploring all kinds of forms and have come up with some new ones. The brown melee was so hard that I sharpened over an inch on my gouges. Maybe it was the difficulity of the wood that I lost my way with this piece. It was my first brown melee piece. The golden edges were applied because of the different colored edges of this burl and it was applied durning the finishing process. Thank you for the kind words of praise for my work as I havent turned for long and I am a furniture maker by trade.

William ,Yes this Mallee can get so hard you almost wonder if it shouldn't be mounted on the grinder and turn the stone on the lathe.
Sometimes the only way to finish it is with a large scraper .
I really like were your work is heading and this piece is no exception
Cheers
