Yeah, I love the visual effect of curly and quilted grain patterns. This can make it a little more difficult to get a perfect cut at times, though.

For any forum members reading this, curly grain is the same as fiddleback, tiger, and flame grain patterns......but quilted grain is entirely different.

You mentioned once that the inside need not mirror the outside shape. How thick are your bowls and how do you decide? Love them!

Alan......All depends on how it looks and feels. Sometimes the grain pattern influences the shape of both the inside and outside. Sometimes it depends on eliminating flaws. Every bowl is done "on the fly", and there are certain shapes I've pioneered.....leaving it open to adjustments as I go..... These things may look rather static to someone not walking a mile in my shoes, but they are what continues to make my shop time interesting to me!
