8”x3” Ash. 300 white pony beads. Faber Castell Dark Sepia. The grain of this piece of Ash was impossible to get a consistent burn. Live and learn. The beads were bathed in tan leather dye to take off the stark white and give them a “dirty” look. This piece tried my dedication.
Thank you very much Tim! I used 74g brown wire. Thread the bead and twist the two ends into a tail using small pliers and twisting the bead. Trim the tail to about 1/8”. Drill a hole using a #74 or #75 drill. Grasp bead with tweezers, dip the end in CA and insert. It’s very time consuming.
With my 1st experiment, the stark white beads stood out too much for me. For this one I dipped the hank into tan leather dye and rubbed the excess off. I like the look mush better. If you have ever used leather dye, you know it will stain anything, especially skin, and it doesn’t wash off.
The variation is in fact a benefit to help “the basket” look more convincing; it looks more real than most. To me, the beads are a marginal adder - I would have skipped them.
