On the issue of attribution, I try to be as accurate as possible with all my basket illusion pieces. On many older baskets/designs, the artist is rarely known, but I still credit the nation(s) according to available info. Attribution of artist/nation is always inscribed on the bottom of the piece.

The use of black locust started a few years ago when I wanted to play around with a design and grabbed some to use as a practice piece. I have a literal forest of it, so some is always sitting on a shelf.

It is admittedly not ideal for a basket illusion. Beading results in some tear out no matter how carefully done, early/late wood burns differently and accepts ink differently, grain patterns are visible, etc. Nevertheless, I like the aged, weathered look that results. It's not to everyone's liking, but that is OK.
