Night Fall

"Nightfall" | Maple
Hollow Form, 3" x 12" h
-Dyed, Lacquered, & Buffed
That must have been some trick to hollow out with that long neck! Very nice!
The trick is to reverse hollow the piece from the bottom, which requires a tenon on both ends to finish the piece. After hollowing from the bottom you then plug the opening by sizing and glueing back the bottom tenon piece that you parted off earlier (much like fitting a box lid).

Ooooo. Tricky! I like that 😁 thanks! Love the colors too!

Jason,

I'm working on my first tall hollow form (vase). I'm getting close now, just glued the bace on. Thanks for the tip before. I wondered if you have or know of any tutorials on this process? There are many things to consider as you go. My vase is spalted maple and not nearly as elegant a shape as yours but it's a start. I think I have to work up to that long thin neck. I also have not even thought about dyes yet in my learning. I still come back to this piece and get lost in those colors! Wow!

Thanks in advance.
