Oak inside-out candleholders

The fall 2007 issue of American Woodturner has a very informative article entitled A systematic approach to Multi-Axis Turning by Barbara Dill. Thank you Barbara! On page 38 under #7 Assembling wood to make a split (inside-out) turning there is this simple little phrase: Four square spindles are turned together and then each rotated two to four times.

I have been doing inside-out turnings for several years but the concept of turning the pieces 3 or 4 times had never entered my mind. Turning the pieces 3 or 4 times opens up so many new options.

These are a little over 12 inches tall. The middle sections were turned twice while the sections above and below the middle were turned 3 times. The two sections that are turned 3 times are a mirror image of each other.

Comments welcome.
