Captured Spin Top

Honduran Mahogany spin top body, Black Palm stem, Maple pedestal, brass bearing. I made this piece for Stan Pressner for the recent forum swap. This is a somewhat new take on a spin top, where the top is connected to the pedestal yet is still mobile (takes a bit of force to separate the two). I turned the top body like a calabash to keep the center of gravity low and help with balance. Stan posted a nice photo in the swap gallery, but I wanted to also include this here to show a detail shot and a video of it in action (below).
Additional detail shot and short video of the top in action. Like Stan said in his post, with a good spin this will rotate for around 2 minutes.

Thanks a lot, guys!

@John Whitley swoon away! Surprises are fun 🙂

@Gene Pitstick sure, happy to share. The interior of the bowl has a small hollow with an entrance hole that you can see in the photo in the first comment. The top of the pedestal is slightly larger in diameter than the entrance, so with a bit of force it can be pushed inside but can't be removed easily. The top of the pedestal is smooth and slightly concave, so that the bearing embedded in the bowl sits/rides in the center. When I get back home I will post an image of a drawing I made when designing the form.
