Kris, I always suggest Bloodwood for a long lasting red color material. There is no matching the brilliance of freshly milled Padauk. The challenge is somewhere down the road, the Padauk will brown out and your contrast will disappear. Contrast (even blended) should be there forever so a worthwhile tip to remember. Image your wood colors years down the road when selecting them!

Yes, you are correct. Getting Bloodwood to Alaska is hard and around $30 a BF when its here. I go through a few thousand board feet of hardwood a year and Padauk works great for the quantity I use. I explain the color change of Purple Heart / Padauk and UV in my care guides and on my website.
