Aspen Trinket Box

Aspen Trinket Box was inspired by the works of Gabriel Hoff who makes excellent lidded boxes using exotic woods. I wouldn't classify Aspen as an exotic wood, but I had never turned aspen before - I got a branch from a neighbor who had some small trees in his courtyard that had to be removed. This little box measures 2.75" x 2.75" and is hollowed out on the inside to approximately 1/4" wall thickness. For decorative purposes, I inlaid some Turquoise TruStone Granules on the top of the lid --- there was also a small crack on the side of the box that I also inlaid with the same granule material.
Really nice David! The shape is very good and the inlay is an excellent contrast!
Hi Gabriel - Thanks for the nice comment! Its not as elegant as the one you just posted but it was my first try at making your style of small, lidded box & my first time turning Aspen - for the finish, I used Parfix 3408 - I am happy with the way it turned out - I think I am getting a little better using CA as a finish
