This is a piece inspired by a style of Native American basketry called a burden basket. It was a cross cultural functional style used to carry loads on the back using a buckskin harness. It had a conical shape and variations of size and carry method based on tribal preferences. This is turned from Texas Mesquite and measures 10" long and 10" wide. Turquoise jewelry beads are incorporated into the rim and a turquoise cabachon is recessed into the bottom. It rests on a base that stabilizes it for display. 10 inches long and 10 inches wide.
