#2166 Brown Mallee Burl Australia.
Odie

#2166 Brown Mallee Burl Australia.

This is among the nicest BMB burls I have had the pleasure of turning. Finished on 3/22/2024, and sold for $385 on 4/19/2024. 7 5/8" x 2 3/4", 1 lb 2.9 oz. Includes my signature "undercut" rim. Original block was 20% MC, and after roughing and anchorseal, it took a total of 11 months to stabilize for the second turn. Sanded to 600gt, Danish oil natural, Beall 3-step buffed.

Nice one, Odie. As always, spectacular wood combined with your impeccable technique has produced a stunning piece. Also nice to hear that the public is beginning to appreciate it more, in the form of higher prices. You've earned it.

Thanks Dean..... :)

Hope you faired well with that freak storm we had a couple days ago. I spent a couple days cleaning up the torn branches and debris from my property. A couple of very large tree branches landed on my roof. Luckily my son was available to help me clean up the mess.

Great work Odie! I think I am going to get on Etsy and purchase one of your bowls for my collection very soon! I have been wanting to for awhile, just to see and feel the great craftsmanship and say that I own one of the best bowls from a talented artist! I really am surprised that you list the materials cost, very transparent!

Thank you Gabriel......I would be greatly honored, sir...... :)

It's hard to pinpoint the exact cost of materials, because some blocks of wood are shipped to me in a combined shipping cost, plus I add an additional $7.50 or $15 or $25, depending on my estimation of the sanding, finishing, and shipping supplies. The final postage costs are included in the price, too. Most people don't realize that the profit margin barely keeps my little enterprise working for me.......but, you know that, even though my bowls seem very expensive, the final objective isn't to make a living.....but, to sustain my artistic life pursuits.

The bowl has an aristocratic beauty odie!

Thank you very much for your comment, Dimitris...... :)

It was limited to your neck of the woods. We had no new bowl blanks come down, or anything vaguely interesting.
