Hello everyone, I present to you my latest piece. It measures 5.5".
The oak comes from a beam from an old barn.
The inserts are made of zinc, patiently shaped with a hammer and a jeweler's saw. Joint between the strata are made of earth and oil.
Matte varnish finish

This reminds me of an extraordinary piece of pottery I saw in the Victoria and Albert Museum, with impossibly thin scales or sheets revealed under the surface. Wonderful work.

Very beautifully done Lorin. The colours of the wood, earth and zinc work wonderfully together.
May I ask if the earth gets hard with the addition of the oil?

And I know I am not that dumbola..

Could someone make my peabrain work and open my eyes to oak and zinc and earth in between?

And yes I do like it …my natural me wants to know ?
Who how when where but not why .. as artists we do not have to ever answer why.
