Cedar and maple segment

This is probably the most ambitious piece I ever tried. I turned it a few years back from 355 segments, mostly cedar and maple. Stands 16 inches tall and 12 1/2 wide. It has seven “scenes” on it that I created by using a scroll saw, a drill, and some carving. Each of the suns/moons were drilled out, then a filler piece turned. I used Inlace to fill to create the bird, water, and mountains.
Great form! Looks great! How many segments per row? Seven segment feature ring? Is the cedar only in the feature ring? Any issues gluing cedar to maple? Really nice!

I misspoke. There are 10 “scenes”. About 80% of it is cedar. I made the feature blocks first, then basically filled the space with other segments. Believe me, I did not use a jig or anything. I just drew out the size circle I wanted, then divided it up. Basically created a template. There is also a little pine next to the scenes, but they each are created on a block of cedar. And I had no trouble gluing anything up. If I could figure out how to attach more pics to this, I have progress shots

Your ambition paid off Art! The end result is what counts and your feature ring is quite unique in both process and overall look. Nicely done Art!
