I Navigate These Seas By Starlight

Black Oak bowl, Bloodwood pewa, Koa, Bradford Pear, and Bamboo canoe, India ink, acrylic and milk paints. 7.25"d x 3"h. When I posted a previous piece, "The Vessel", Emiliano commented on Hawaiian wayfinders using the stars to navigate the seas. I went down the rabbithole, and came up with this piece. Imagine being alone on a vessel, using only nature's clues to guide your path. How inspiring!
Thanks a lot for the kind words, everyone. @David Wyke yes, I carved the boat. The canoe and the outrigger are Koa, the connecting arms are bamboo, and the sail is Bradford Pear. @Tom Gall I carved the sailed, but that’s a great idea for the next one 😉 and oh yeah, the sky will be wild then.

Great job expressing the story Michael! It does create a pause for me to consider sailing the ocean at night with nothing but your wits!! Nicely done!

I keep coming back to look at this Michael! I particularly like the photo looking straight down. The grain pattern of the wood looks like subtle ripples or currents on the water. Nice work all around!
