Seed Pod of Cherry

This Seed Pod was turned and hollowed from a 4" x 7" Cherry spindle blank. A microcarver was the main tool used for the carving. The finish is walnut oil. The form was inspired by Neil Turner.
Very well done start to finish Jim! It is quite lovely. Did you use something other than a rotary microcarver for the textured surfaces?

Will, I used a triangle head mini carver bit on the carver for the texture. Additionally, a split mandrel holding sandpaper finished forming and cleaning the grooves. A small sanding disk on a mandrel sharpened the ends of the pod. All on the microcarver. Some touches with files and sanding also.

WOW! This is really an amazing piece. I am amazed especially knowing the amount of painstaking time that it must have taken and the delicate craftsmanship that was obviously required.

The form is just breathtaking!
