Norway maple hollow form

Norway maple hollow form

7” diameter by 5 1/2” tall x 3/16” wall thickness. I’m still working through pieces of a large Norway maple log I got about 12 days ago. It was mostly turned into bowl blanks, but also a few potential hollow forms, including this one. I’m getting a bit bolder about going for thinner walls. The video setup gives me a bit more confidence in this regard than the laser.
Thanks very much Paul. I started with a 7/8” Forstner bit, but by the time I was finished the hole had grown to 1 3/16”. I have a Trent Bosch stabilizer and a homemade video hollowing setup using an old laptop and a usb webcam that I turned a mount for so it fits in the TB laser arm on the stabilizer. For this smaller hollow form I used Mike Jakofsky’s 1/2” bar cutters with carbide cup cutters (from Craft Supplies I think). I took a weeklong class from Trent last June at the J.C. Campbell School, and it was terrific.
