#2270 spike Maple burl.

Finished May 4th, 2024, this spike maple burl is a departure from my norm. I've seen these blocks on rare occasions, but never purchased any before now. I like it, and plan to get more.....that is, if and when I ever see more in the future. I had to purchase some random orbit 2" pads for my Grex random orbit sander to do the sides and bottom properly.....so I guess I'm set to go for the next one. 8" x 7 1/2" x 2 1/2", 2lb 4.3oz.

This is really cool Odie, the contrast of the square body with the nice round bowl shape is quite unique.

That Burl, or spikes, are surreal! It almost looks like an AI generator image. That’s not meant as a negative it’s just so perfect!

How are you adding the tiny decorative groves?

note: @Nino G. Cocchiarella Grooves are done with a spear point scraper. The tip is a very acute angle, and the very tip is hand honed with a flat diamond hone. Normally I use a 600gt diamond hone for this, but lately I've been using a 400gt hone, because that's what I have on hand. The difference in diamond hones doesn't seem to make any difference in the overall quality of the cut grooves.
