Quartersawn Verawood Round Edge Box

Quartersawn Verawood Round Edge Box

Back to the round edge style on this box, made this time from quartersawn Verawood. It has a unique feathered look to the grain when quartersawn, and has really vertical striping as well. The green color is also unique. Styling features include, thin walls, a domed lid, and a raised foot. Turned, hollowed and finished with buffed wax and two coats of gloss lacquer. Size is approx. 2" in diameter and 1.75 inches tall. This wood is extremely oily and dense, so getting a good cut off the tool is relatively easy, but sanding is another story!!
Gabriel, by this point, I should just put pictures of your boxes up around my shop with a sign that says , "Shoot for this!" You are a master of the clean, well aligned, ideally shaped box. Wish I could do as well. Kudos!
Wow Dean! That's very kind! I do try to find pleasing shapes and try to keep things clean and simple. Just keep practicing, it will never fail to improve anyone's skills!

Great looking with the smooth curve. Where did you source the wood? Local? I notice you joined the Segmented Woodturners AAW chapter recently. Looking forward to a segmented box :)

Hey Gabriel - really cool - I had to look twice because my initial thought at first glance was that it was a glue up with some twigs or something of that nature --- which would've been cool too but this quartersawn Verawood is really striking! Great work!

Thanks David and Dimitris! Yes the quartersawn grain really looks like different types of feathers glued together. Pretty coo!
