Is the turquoise ring hiding a glue joint because you initially took out a small core to make it possible to hollow? Also, why does it look like there's spalting specifically around that ring?
It is hollowed through the bottom. I put the turquoise ring in there to cover up a small punky defect in the wood. I could have gone with coffee grounds or sawdust in just the defective area, but decided to go with a whole ring.
