The inspiration for this piece came from John Beaver. I took a class with John last April at Marc Adams School of Woodworking and while we didn’t make this vessel in class, I saw it in John’s presentation. I was very impressed and talked to John about the process to build it which I completely forgot when I went to build it myself (that’s what happens when you get old). John’s piece was made exposing end grain and this piece is side grain. It’s made from locally sourced white oak that I ebonized after it was constructed. It measures 5” in diameter and 7” tall and a glass vase will fit inside.
