Questions...How long did you leave the steel wool in the vinegar before solution ready?
Did you take the steel wool out when solution ready?
What is shelf life of solution?
Reason for questions...my attempt not as spectacular as yours...then forgot about it for awhile...when rediscovered, it barked at me. Seriously, it looked like something was growing in that jar

I was surprised at how quickly the steel wool dissolved, gone in two or three days.
I let it rest for a couple weeks.
A bit of scum on the surface and sediment on the bottom. From my reading, it wasn’t clear about straining the goo or leaving it. I left it all, but avoided agitating.
Applied with a cloth quite liberally. The reaction started immediately.
Ive had the solution for about 4 months, and it seems good still.

My working solution is almost clear, with a purple tint.

Doesn’t look like oak; I would have guessed that it was something exotic. Never tried this; does it only work on the oak because of tannic acid? Have you tried on other light woods?
