Hi Ted, I use a variety of tools on each piece. I use 3/8” Ellsworth and Ellsworth style tools that I’ve made on just about all of my pieces. I also use modified Allen wrenches and John Jordan tools as needed.
Thanks , really trying to improve my hollowing. That’s why I asked and you seem to have it figured out.
 
If you haven’t already, pick up David Ellsworth’s book on Woodturning. It is what inspired me to start hollowing freehand.
I have a captured hollowing system but have found I prefer hollowing freehand as well. I’ll definitely pick up David’s book , thanks.
