A Pound of Feathers, or...

A Pound of Feathers, or...

This is a play on the question, "What weighs more, a pound of feathers, or a pound of bricks?". They weigh the same, of course--as do these Sweetgum and Patagonian Rosewood eggs (91.4g and 91.7g, respectively), despite their obviously different sizes. Wildly different woods in appearance, size, oiliness, and perceived value; however they possess the same basic characteristics that all woods do. Likewise, with the Gaboon Ebony and Black Cherry firewood stand. The copper wire spring that connects the eggs was fun to make as well (the egg/spring component is removable and fun to play with).
At first I thought it was an abstract (sort of) old phone! You remember those? No, of course not, you are too young!
Ha! That would be a cool project, actually. I know of those phones, and have actually used one before. It had a rotary dial. But, that was when I was super young. So, not TOO young, but almost :p

I missed this somehow when you posted it in March! I love it!
Thank you Will! This is one of those pieces that I wish I still had, or at least hadn’t given away to someone anonymous. It was part of an online turning exchange, and I didn’t even know if my recipient received it until I reached out and asked. I’ve learned my lesson with art pieces and exchanges haha. Sorry for the rant—still stings a bit. In the end it’s just a reason to make a version 2.

Yes, a sad story... but at least you have great pictures! You have done such a great job on this piece-- very imaginative and it appeals to my nerdy side. I look forward to version 2.0.
